We are very proud to say that Philou Louzolo, family member of Alkebulan since day one, will be curating his very own playlist on 22tracks in Amsterdam.
Dear Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc etc (male) friends,
I feel like I needed to say this. So please read carefully: NO! Cosby does not have and will never have my vote or support, ever again. However, I will forever appreciate what he did as the character Mr Huxtable. The show, the writers and the character he played were responsible for the positive perception of black lives and families on TV, but lets separate the character from the actor. He was not, is not and never will be Mr Huxtable like Harrison Ford isn’t Han solo (although we would like to be believe he is ;)). Like most of us, Mr Cosby has his own life and we do not know what he does when he comes home from his job…
For the Alkebulan project West African EP, Philou Louzolo teamed up with Rapper Cool joe. The track will soon be released on Spotify and other streaming sites. But before all that happened we talked to the Afrobeat genius about his roots and his work.
It’s time for Ghana to wake up! First, read why Kwame Write made this political message clear in a song, then listen to the song and start pushing for Change!
While we were roaming the web looking for talented people for volume 1 of the Alkebulan bookseries, we came across this beautiful series of photographs by Heather Agypong. We had to interview her. After numerous of failed attempts to meet up through Skype, phonecalls and even trying to meet up in her homecity, we finally got both of our busy schedules to work. We talked about her work and her connection to Africa. Get a little inside scoop of your new favourite photographer.
Last year I found myself at a festival in Denmark. This in itself was a musical experience, but what really put a smile on my face was that Ghanaian Hiplife music pumped out of a gang of Danish teenage boys’ self-made boombox that they wheeled around the festival area.
We launched our very first music video with Alkebulan artist Philou Louzolo ft Cool Joe and Elvira. The concept behind Beng Beng Beng is pretty simple, get into that summer vibe! Philou’s funky beat compliments Cool joe’s eccentric raps and Elvira’s soulful voice finishes it up.
Thursday 7 May we released the Alkebulan Project, numerous artists from various areas of Africa joined together and celebrated the release. We celebrated this fine night with music from Amartey & The Yung Bilibams, Elvira and performances of Tofik Dibi, Ouassima.A mishmash of beautiful creatures visited our event and we couldn’t be more happy about the end result:
